More than 30 young LHS alumni came back to their alum mater on Thursday December 22nd, to offer college and career advice to our current students.  Students in several math and science classes participated in this event during class after which  a pizza lunch was served to the Alumni and many of our students as they spoke in greater depth in one on one conversations.  Special Thanks to our LHS Alumni Association for sponsoring the lunch for the students and alumni mentors!

The Livermore Police Department and Livermore High School have received complaints regarding illegal parking and unsafe driving in the area of LHS during drop off and pick up times.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you to drive safely.  Please read the following traffic safety tips.

Pedestrian Safety: Students must cross at the signal lights or marked crosswalks. Any students observed crossing in the middle of the street (jaywalking) may be cited.  This also includes trips off campus at lunchtime.

Driving in school zones: Abide by all traffic laws. Remember the speed limit in school zones is 25 MPH when children are present (regardless of the posted speed).  Also keep in mind the safe speed for conditions may be quite slower in school zones due to increased pedestrian and bicycle traffic, so drive cautiously.

Dropping off in or near LHS: We have designated drop off areas for students. Some areas are unstaffed and some are staffed with Campus Supervisors. Take advantage of these safe and legal areas to drop off your child.  NEVER drop off in the middle of the street, even if traffic is stopped.

Cowboy Alley Drop Off: Drive along the right curb, inside the cones, to drop off your student.  Once your student exits your vehicle, you must stay within the cones until the exit point. (**The Campus Supervisor is there to ensure the safety of LHS students and regulate the flow of the drop off line.  Please follow any instructions the Campus Supervisor may give you.)

School Street Drop Off: Drive along the right curb until you reach the turnabout.  At that point, your student can exit your vehicle.  Please be cautious when proceeding through the turnabout. LHS staff members may be approaching from your left to access the entry gate and they have the right-of-way.  Please also be courteous to others dropping off their students and DO NOT BYPASS THE DROP OFF LINE to make a U-turn at the turnabout.  This only raises the likelihood of a collision.

Parking at or near the school: Avoid double parking to let your student out of the vehicle.  Double parking will block visibility for pedestrians and motorist.  Do not block residential/commercial driveways.  Please also abide by all curb markings in and around the school.  The curbs are specifically marked for safe maneuvering and visibility.

Red curb-            You can NEVER stop, stand or park your vehicle in a red zone.

Yellow curb-       Drop off only, you may not park and exit your vehicle.

Green curb-        Time limit parking, regulated by a posted sign and curb marking.

Blue curb-           This is for disabled persons and buses that transport disabled students.

Driving and parking in school zones can be a hectic time. Here are some tips to help make things run smoother:

Arrive early- Even 5 minutes earlier can make a difference.

Afternoon time, arrive a little later- Less traffic.

Prearrange a location for your child to wait for you- Park a block away.  Make sure the location is safe and legal for you to stop in.

Walk or ride your bicycle to school- Parents should encourage their students to ride their bicycles to school, is possible.

If you have children who drive themselves to school, please share this information with them as well.  Thank you for you continued support in the safety of LHS students.
